KARACHI: Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) president Kalim Imam said on Thursday that the federation will do all it can to help Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan secure a berth in the doubles event of London Olympics 2012.

“We have given a proposal to Aqeel Khan to participate in future events happening anywhere in the region. We will do as much as possible to help the duo to lift their rankings, which will enable them to qualify for Olympics,” he told reporters at Karachi Gymkhana.

To qualify for the Olympics, Aisam has to defend his top 10 rankings till June, while Aqeel must accumulate some points in international singles or doubles events to make a strong bid for Olympics.

Aisam is likely to maintain his ranking, but Aqeel must play in international events to grab some points. “Aqeel must play in futures and better his rankings so that we could secure place in Olympics,” Aisam said in a recent interview. If Aisam and Aqeel make it to the Olympics it would be the first-ever participation for Pakistan in a tennis event at the Olympics.
