Army win swimming championship

KARACHI: Army won the All Pakistan Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Gold Cup Swimming Championship, which concluded at the Aadil Khan Swimming Pool at Qayyum Sports Complex, Peshawar, on Tuesday. Army, the undisputed champions, took 15 gold, 11 silver and four bronze medals, ending with 421 points.

They were followed by WAPDA as runners-up with 179 points which they got by virtue of six silver and ten bronze medals.

Navy (126 points) gained one gold, two silver and three bronze medals, while Higher Education Commission (HEC) claimed three gold and two bronze medals with 79 points. Punjab picked up 19 points, and KP captured 11 points in the three-day competitions.

Final day’s finals results: 1500m freestyle: Waqar Ahmed (Army, gold, 18:29.39), Nadeem Younis, Army (19:33.27), Mumtaz Ahmed (WAPDA, 20:19.04), 50m freestyle: Sikandar Khan (HEC, 25.84), Adil Baig (Army, 26.38), Mazhar Hussain (WAPDA, 26.86), 50m butterfly: Sikandar Khan (HEC, 27.69), Mazhar Hussain (WAPDA, 27.89), Farrukh Butt (WAPDA, 28.69), 50m breaststroke: Zohray Khan (Army, 33.06), Abdul Aziz (WAPDA, 33.20), M Ashraf (Army, 33.70), 50m backstroke: Faiz Muhammad (Army, 30.44), Muhammad Asif (Army, 30.86), Atif Khwaja (WAPDA, 32.00), 4X100m Medley Relay: Army (4:29.91, Faiz, Zohray, Zohaib, Adil), Navy (4:32.65, Usman, Zeeshan, Ali, Ishtiaq), WAPDA (4:35.90, Farrukh, Aziz, Adnan, Mazhar).
