KARACHI: Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and his Colombian partner Robert Farah reached the quarter-finals of the Citi Open, being played in the United States, on Wednesday.
Aisam and Farah defeated the pair of Matthew Ebden of Australia and Jonathan Marray of Great Britain, ranked 76th and 22nd, respectively, 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 in the round of 16 of this ATP 500 tournament.
Aisam and Farah are ranked 12th and 61st.
The pair was to face the duo of Treat Conrad Huey of Philippines and Dominic Inglot of Great Britain on Thursday, who are ranked 47th and 77th in individual doubles ATP rankings.
Aisam’s original partner Jean-Julien Rojer, ranked 21st, got a wild card entry to the Olympics 2012, so Aisam is partnering temporarily with Farah.
Aisam has won 25 matches, including two titles, this year and is now hoping to win the US Open where he with his Indian Partner Rohan Bopanna crashed out at the semifinals stage last year.
The Citi Open is a hard court stop at the William HG Fitzgerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park, Washington DC, and is considered one of the prestigious ATP 500 tournaments in international tennis circuit.
