Punjab extend medals lead in swimming contest

KARACHI: Punjab further extended their lead on the second day of the 18th National Boys Age-Group Swimming Championship at the Aadil Khan Swimming Pool at Qayyum Sports Complex in Peshawar on Thursday.

 

Punjab, who had got nine gold medals on the first day, had extended their gold tally to 13 by the end of the morning session on Thursday. They also clinched six silver and six bronze medals in the event being held in age categories of 12 and under, 14 and under and 16 and under. Sindh were trailing them with ten gold medals, 12 silver and eight bronze.

 

Hosts Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were placed third with five gold, nine silver and 11 bronze medals. Islamabad had one silver and three bronze medals, while FATA had two points without any medal.

 

In 12 and under, Punjab lifted six gold, two silver and one bronze medals. They were followed by Sindh with two gold, five silver and three bronze medals. KP gained one bronze, while Islamabad picked up one silver and three bronze medals.

 

In the 14 and under category, Sindh remained dominant as they claimed seven gold and three silver and bronze medals each. They were followed by KP with two gold, three silver and three bronze medals, while Punjab were at number three with three silver and bronze medals each.

 

In 16 and under, Punjab dominated with seven gold, one silver and two bronze medals. They were followed by KP with three gold, six silver and seven bronze medals, while Sindh secured one gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

 

Meanwhile, Yahya Khan from Punjab set two new national records in 400m freestyle and 50m backstroke in 16 and under.
