KARACHI: National squash coach Jamshed Gul has said that lack of training was the actual cause of poor performance of Pakistan’s top players at Jena International Tournament held in Kuwait from June 15-18.
Pakistani duo Amir Atlas Khan and Yasir But after getting their ban lifted by Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) took part in this international event, where Yasir lost in the first round and Amir in the quarter-finals.
Aamir is ranked 37th and Yasir 67th. Yasir lost to Egypt’s Zahed Mohamed, ranked 102nd, in the very first round of the tournament, while Aamir lost to Omer Abdul Meguid of Egypt, ranked 64th, in the quarter-final.
Jamshed said that both the players played this tournament on their own and were not sent by the federation. “And they had received only two week’s training before leaving for the event, which was quite insufficient to play an international event,” said the coach.
He further said that their fitness level was not good enough for taking part in an international event, but now they have to have hard training at the federation’s complex till September. “Now they will join the camp and will be given a hard training for better preparations to participate in the events to be started from July,” he said.
