KARACHI: There was good news for Pakistan tennis on Sunday when Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and his partner Rojer Jean-Julien won the Halle Open’s men’s doubles title by outclassing the pair of Treat Conrad Huey and Scot Lipsky in straight sets.
Aisam, who loves playing on grass, and his partner proved too good for their opponents as they raced to a 6-3, 6-4 triumph in the final of the tournament in Halle, Germany. It is the second time in his career that Aisam has won the Halle doubles crown.
Last year, Aisam won this title in partnership with India’s Rohan Boppana. Last June, Aisam-Boppana won the final of the Halle Open by beating the pair of Robin Haase of Netherlands and Milos Raonic of Canada 7-6, 3-6, 11-9, who were then ranked 88 and 406 respectively.
Aisam, who is ranked 15 in the doubles rankings, is finally doing well with Rojer as they have won the second title after Estroil. Both the tournaments, however, were ATP 250 class. The duo have won 250 points after winning the title and the result is expected to boost their positions in the world doubles rankings.
