KARACHI: Rehan Khan, the newly appointed senior director sports, recreation and culture of KMC, has offered the Pakistan Swimming Federation (PSF) the use of pools in Kashmir Road Sports Complex and Women Sports Complex for their events.

He said it was regrettable that PSF was facing difficulties for lack of pools. The offer comes in the wake of a story published by ‘The News’ headlined “PSF remains without pool in Sindh”.

The PSF secretary Major (Rtd) Majid Waseem had complained that Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and KMC are in the position to provide help and resolve the issue, but their attitude was disappointing.

“As far as KMC’s swimming pools are concerned I can assure PSF that they can organise their events at KMC swimming pools and all support that is possible within the limited resources of KMC will be provided to PSF and other sports organisations for competitions,” Khan said.

KMC’s sports infrastructure is among the best in the country, including Kashmir Road Sports Complex and Women Sports Complex in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. But financial constraints and lack of interest of the officials led to a decline in sports activities in the city in the last few years.

Khan said that the doors of KMC’s sports department remain open to every sports association of the country. He vowed that maximum opportunities for sports competitions would be provided to organisations. “Our sports stadiums, grounds, complexes and gymnasiums are open for sports associations.”

He mentioned that KMC administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed has directed the department to revive sporting culture in the city. He pointed out that KMC these days is passing through financial crisis but the administration knows the importance of sports. Khan added that on the directives of KMC administrator, the sports department has started work on the revival of sporting activities and competitions and soon a comprehensive plan of the events would be chalked out.
